A I'm not sure you get to make sweeping generalizations about a community you don't belong to and have no real context for, ethically. Just as someone could say "What's going on with all of the kleptomania in the Romani community?" If you're not a part of the demographic you are basing your opinion on, you are basing it on what others in your demographic are saying, or in an "outside looking in" perspective, which is how hegemony participates in harm to other cultures, ethnographically. You are etic to the group. Maybe ask why there is so much homophobia and racism (No matter how much virtue signaling happens on FB) in the Portland metal scene instead.
